I believe it did happen in some cases. There’s a book written by a Jew Dr. Ariel Toaff that details what happened with Simon of Trent and the investigation.
He was courageous to publish the book but after vicious pressure and threats he apologized, stopped the distribution of the book and donated all the funds he received from the book to the ADL.
